1.3 mile (3,000-step) route
Located in a leafy suburb of the Alamo city, the fabled Woodlawn Lake is a veritable waterway of fun and frills. A recent study by the city found that residents in this high tech suburb spend a fair number of hours strolling around the lake. One of the many amenities is a heated pool, and many of the neighborhood hawkers spend most of their days catching rays. The surrounding neighborhood is home to several well heeled tech companies, as well as the likes of local stalwarts like IBM and Boeing. With so much going on, it’s easy to understand why the residents of Woodlawn Lake have their own social circles.
Lighthouse
Among the many iconic San Antonio landmarks, Woodlawn Lake Park is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. This 79-year-old lake, located on the West Side, features an artificial lake and an iconic landlocked lighthouse.
Woodlawn Lake Park was not always a city park. When it first opened in 1918, it was intended to serve one of San Antonio’s first subdivisions. The West End Town Company, a group of developers, bought 1,000 acres of pasture west of the original city limits.
The “West End Improvement Club” began revitalizing the area in 1920. The club planted 100 trees and built a playground. They also built a small casting pond at the southeast corner. In 1919, the company donated 62 acres to the city.

One of the park’s most intriguing features is the “Spin eway,” a dazzling public art installation that showcases the talents of New York-based artist Marc Fornes.
