PRIVACY FENCES

PICKET FENCES

Privacy fence installation and fence repairs are additional home improvements services we provide. Wooden fences can last long and are cost efficient. The  most common types of wood used for fences are pine and Cedar.

Hurricanes, wind storms and hail storms damage fences constantly. If you have insurance coverage it will help you get a new fence and reduce your out-of -pocket cost. Insurance companies in rare occasions will pay for fence depreciation. For that reason, the homeowner pays part of the cost.

We recommend contacting your insurance company. They will advice you whether your coverage is current and enough. Home improvements are key to maintaining your home in the best shape possible.

CEDAR VS TREATED WOOD PICKETS

Treated pine fences is  in most cases the most affordable way to build a fence. In contrast, with cedar fences you will see some price savings in the hundreds of dollars. Treated wood fences can last many years if you protect them and maintain them. The best way to protect them is applying sealants at least every other year.

Fences constructed with treated pine develop some warping or curving over time. This is due to the chemical treatments they get in order to last longer. The other reason is due to the young pines they come from.

Cedar pickets however are slightly costlier compared to treated wood. Our home improvements professionals can explain the price-quality difference for both. Although the difference in price may seem reasonable at first, it is important to weigh in the difference in terms of quality.

The reason is it will give you a longer lasting quality and better looks. Cedar wood is a straight looking wood, resistant and with fine cuts. This is due to pickets that come from mature trees.

NAILS VS SCREWS:

Fence fastening is achieved using either nails or screws. Using one or the other can make a difference price wise. Screws tend to perform better because it adds additional strength to the structure. Having a sturdier fence is key to avoid damage after a storm.

Today fence nails are manufactured with ring-shank instead of smooth shank. Ring shank nails can definitely add that additional strength you need making the job faster.  A fence installation using is without a doubt faster than screws. The cost you will pay for labor is likewise lower. Our home improvements department can help explaining the difference between both options.

MAINTAINING THE FENCE IS IMPORTANT:

This is key to have a longer lasting wooden fence. No wooden fence can last forever but the more you maintain it and care for it the more it will last. It is recommended to have your fence inspected every year and sealed it with a good brand sealant. Sealants can protect the wood from the constant wear and tear of the sun.

Heat and rain damage fences in the same manner.
Maintaining your fence will help you save in the long run. You will have a longer lasting fence.

We build privacy fences 6 feet tall. Sizes may vary depending on local regulations in your city or county. These fences are designed based on your specific needs. Those needs could be things such as pet safe, pool fencing or other options. For a pet safe fence we recommend adding a 1 x 6 board at the bottom.

This board is attached to the perimeter of the entire fence. This is one more of the various home improvements services we offer. Call us for a free estimate to stain and protect your fence.

ADDING A BOTTOM BOARD CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

This prevents the bottom of pickets from getting damaged due to the effect of the elements. Another advantage is it makes it harder for dogs to chew and brake it.

This is our most typical wooden fence process.

  • Remove and discard old pickets, posts and concrete
  • Dig holes for post 2 to 3 feet deep.
  • Place 4 x 4 post 7 or 8 feet apart
  • Level them from all angles
  • Pour Cement in the holes
  • Install 3 horizontal 2 x 4  boards throughout the fence structure. At the bottom, center and top part of posts
  • Install 1 x 6 treated pine or preferred type of wood at the bottom of all posts
  • Install new pickets
  • Gate fabrication according to owner’s preference of size and location.
  • Hardware Installation (locks, hinges etc)
